How to Correctly Use a Forklift

Lift trucks are lifting equipment that can transport cargo. They are usually utilized in a variety of industries to move heavy materials. The following steps outline the fundamentals of utilizing a lift truck:



1 Familiarize yourself with the levers which would be used to maneuver the cargo and to transport the object from one location to another. The levers can be found to the right of the steering wheel.

2 The first lever can move the tines down and up. Pushing the lever away from your body moves them down and pulling the lever towards your body moves the forks up. Blades must always be kept close to the ground except when loading or unloading.

3 The two other levers work to control the tines movement left and right and to control the blades tilt. The tines are designed to tilt between 15 and 30 degrees. It is better that you practice before picking up a load. Using the second lever, push it away from your body to tilt the tines forward, and pull it towards you to tilt the forks back.

4 The third lever is moved side to side to control the fork's movement from left to right. Simply move the lever in the direction of where you want the tines to move: left in order to move the tines left, and right in order to move the blades right.

5 Carefully approach the cargo. Lower the forks and carefully drive forward until the forks slide under the load. Afterward lift the tines several centimeters by pulling the lever towards your body. If the load is top-heavy, you should tilt the tines backwards a little for balance.

6 Safe driving rules consist of slowly taking corners and honking to warn pedestrians or other employees that the forklift is approaching. Approach the place where you would be working carefully. Control the levers to maneuver the cargo to where it is going. When the cargo is positioned, reverse gears and back away carefully.

7 Forklifts stop in much the same way as other types of vehicles. The brake is found to the left of the accelerator. Once stopped, shift the gear into "park."
