History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in 1919. The company was originally founded by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The first name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machines. During the year 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into an international brand name in the succeeding years.
