Duties of a Forklift Operator
The job of a forklift driver is to move materials from one location to another, normally in warehouses and factories. Drivers require particular training, which is usually provided by the workplace. Potential operators should pass both a background check and a drug test.
Daily Inspections
Performing safety and functionality checks on a daily basis is part of the many responsibilities of a forklift operator. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration mandates that all forklifts be checked prior to use. The driver must inspect the forklift once more after the shift. Yearly safety training is an important part of a forklift driver's job description.
Unloading and Loading
To be able to load and unload supplies and to stack products in a timely and efficient manner, forklift drivers use the controls on the forklift.
Weighing Materials
As part of the various tasks, the forklift operator should both weigh and log the weights of the supplies they should transport.
Quality Control
One more important part of a forklift operator's task is quality control. This involves making sure that orders are correct and making sure the supplies do not sustain damage during the moving process.
Battery Maintenance and Care
Caring for the forklift battery helps ensure a long life span for the unit. Maintenance and care procedures include checking the level of water within the forklift battery approximately every five charge cycles, filling the cell to just over the visible protector, being careful not to overflow the water, and cleaning up any spills. When a forklift battery is charging, never interrupt the cycle.
PPE: Personal Protective Equipment
Personal Protective Equipment is essential when performing work on the battery, like checks of water levels. Both hand protection and eye protection should be worn, and an acid spill kit and a fire extinguisher must be available. Forklift operators must observe safety regulations at all times. The charging place must be kept ventilated and clear of open flame.
