Types of Boom Lifts or Construction Lifts
A boom lift is a piece of machinery that allows workers to perform tasks without having to construct a scaffolding. They are used to work on elevated structures, to do maintenance work and are common machinery found in warehouse and factory environment too.
Typically, construction lifts provide powered and wheeled bases which are capable of driving to the work place and have a platform on them that is responsible for elevating employees. There are many different kinds of lifts and each and every one is suitable to different jobs and settings.
Bucket Trucks
Cherry pickers or bucket trucks, are built with a long boom which has a bucket connected at the end. This bucket area is where an employee could stand. Commonly, bucket trucks are used by utility workers and by landscapers. Landscapers normally use these types of machinery to cut trees.
Each bucket truck has a boom assembly mounted to a standard truck, which enables these vehicles to move fast on regular roads. Furthermore, this increases the area that this machinery could service efficiently. This is particularly important for power companies. For instance, a lot of these businesses use cherry pickers to lift workers up so they could work on and reach transmission lines. The buckets have to be checked on a regular basis and insulated well as they are working near potential shock hazards.
Knuckle lifts or articulated boom lifts have a work platform mounted to an arm which could bend and reach obstacles. The base of the lift contains a turntable and is capable of turning the lift in a full circle. The base of the lift is mounted on wheels as well for extra mobility.
Normally, the articulated boom lift is utilized for landscaping projects but is also useful for maintenance work on projects which are already completed. Projects that do not need easy access directly below the jobsite. These lifts could be used for exterior electrical work and to repair piping, as well as hard to clean areas. Usually knuckle lifts are driven by the employee in the platform with the extended boom.
