During the year 1949, the Liebherr family business was established by Hans Liebherr. His first claim to fame was the success of his affordable and easy-to-assemble mobile tower crane. It was upon this invention that the foundation of the company flourished under. These days, Liebherr has grown to become amongst the world's leading manufacturers of construction equipment. The business has also gained the reputation of being the acknowledged supplier of user-oriented technically innovative products and services in different fields. The company has currently become a "Group" working in every continent with more than 130 companies and more than 35,000 employees all around the globe.
To be able to guarantee a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into various company units. These units have been designed to operate independently. Liebherr-International AG is the Liebherr Group's holding company. They are situated within Bulle, Switzerland and are totally owned by the Liebherr family members. Currently, the family business is being managed by Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr and his sister Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr in the second generation. Ever since the year 2012, several of the active individual divisions have been represented by family members in the 3rd generation including: Sophie Albrecht, Jan Liebherr, Stefanie Wohlfarth and Patricia Ruf. These members of the family have been working hard together to be able to help set up the family business' course in the future. They are staying on top of large-scale industrial projects and residential buildings across the globe.
Hans Liebherr started to build his business in 1949, in a tiny town known as Kirchdorf in southern Germany. Kirchdorf, presently supports amongst Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations. They are able to average a yearly output of about 2800 wheeled excavators and employ more than 1400 individuals in that particular workforce.
