There are 7 various classifications of forklifts as determined by the ITA or Industrial Truck Association. Class 3 Forklifts: Class 3 lift trucks consist of hand/rider trucks with solid tires and electric hand trucks.

Class 4 Forklifts: The IC or internal combustion units make up Class 4 forklifts. These are sit down rider forklifts with cushion tires. Generally, they are suitable for use on hard surfaces and indoor application.

Class 5 Forklifts: Class 5 is Internal Combustion Engine sit down rider models equipped with pneumatic tires. Usually, these models are ideal for working areas with significant inclines or on rough surfaces outdoors.

Class 6 Forklifts: Class 6 forklifts would consist of internal combustion powered or electric models. These ride-on models can tow at least 1000 pounds. This class is engineered and designed to tow cargo as opposed to lift it.

Category 7 Forklifts: Class 7 only included rough terrain units with pneumatic tires. The Class 7 forklifts are almost exclusively utilized outside and powered by diesel engines.
